Steglitz-Zehlendorf: In 2001 the districts Steglitz and Zehlendorf were united. The new district is situated in the southwest of Berlin and borders Charlottenburg, Wilmersdorf and Tempelhof-Schönefeld. From Steglitz – Zehlendorf you can easily make trips to surrounding areas such as for example Potsdam.
The mixture of grand villa quarters, suburbs and parks is typical for Steglitz and the entire south of Berlin. This district is civic and wealthy.
The main attraction is surely the botanical garden that is used quite often for a excursion. In this monumental building 20,000 plants from all over the world are being cultivated and are visible for visitors. A vast horticultural department and 16 showcase green houses with different topics make the botanical garden a very famous destination to both Berliners and visitors.
On the “Schlossstrasse” street you will find numerous shopping facilities, cafes and snack bars inviting you to stay a while, composing a relaxed atmosphere. With its countless parks such as the “Grunewald” or the “Berliner Forst Düppel” including the small “Wannsee”, the big “Wannsee”, the “Schlachtensee” (lakes) and the “Krumme Lanke”, the Berlin’s district offers a wide range of places to relax. The idyllic “Pfaueninsel” (Peacock Island) which is located in the Havel-River is one of Berlin’s most beautiful nature reserves with several-hundred-year old trees and various bird species. Other places that are worth a visit are the Museum of the Blind, the House of the Wannsee Conference with its exhibition, the Planetarium and the St. Peter and St.Paul’s Churches.
